FNB VITA CRAFT NOW 1998

FNB Vita Craft Now is an annual craft event held in collaboration with the National Crafts Council of South Africa. Craftspeople from all over South Africa are invited to submit works for the prestigious exhibitions and prizes in which 10's of 1000's of rands are awarded.

The aim of the exhibition is to build on uniquely South African tradition and heritage and to promote public interest and appreciation in the various areas of the crafts. The selectors encourage the creation of works of fine craftsmanship and design across all major craft disciplines such as wood, metal, fiber, glass, recycled materials and more.

On offer is a single copy of the 1998 awards catalogue, to which Ntombifuthi Magwaza won the gold  for his telephone wire basket. Silver went to Thembi Nala, daughter of Nesta Nala for her Zulu pot and Andrew Maphanga won bronze for functional wire worked radio. A merit award went to Ian Garret for his  ceramic pot, as did another to  Lynnley Watson for hers. Over 100 works are shown in full color.
