Sleeping Beauties: The Jerome L. Joss Collection of African Headrests at UCLA

This catalogue of 215 pages contains 91 color and 106 black and white photographs. The exhibition was held at the Fowler Museum of Cultural History at UCLA in 1993. Headrests are shown from Africa, Asia, and Oceania. The African examples include those from ancient Egypt.

Jerome Joss was the founder the Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Co., so little wonder his African art interest targeted a related furnishing of sleep! Over the years his collection and this work has become the Bible for new and seasoned headrest collectors alike. A number of priceless masterpieces are depicted.
