The catalogue, Ten
Years of Collecting (1979-1989), was produced by the Standard Bank
Foundation Collection of African Art, the University Art Galleries
Collection of African Art and the University Ethnological Museum
Collection in 1989.
It includes 139 pages with
numerous color and black & white photographs of selected objects. The
exhibition was shown at the Gertrude Posel Gallery at the University of
the Witwatersrand - Johannesburg, as well as Standard Bank National
Festival of Arts in Grahamstown - South Africa.
The catalogue includes a number of important items including beadwork
and wooden objects, which had not been published elsewhere before. As
shown in the attached images, the Ba Tonga, Mfengu, North Sotho, Ovambo
or Herero, South Sotho, Thembu, Tlokwa, Tsonga - Shangaan and Xhosa
are all represented.
