The Magic World of the Xhosa

Aubrey Elliott

Aubrey Elliot was born in South Africa and learned Xhosa at the same time as English. He developed a passion for photography and gained a lifelong interest in the fascinating social life of South Africa's native peoples. This is his unique account of the rich life of a Bantu tribe.

His long out of print anthropological work portraits the Xhosa people living in the Ciskei area of South Africa. Elliott explains the daily life and customs of the Xhosa, their rites, rituals, devils, water spirits, ancestral spirits, myths and various ceremonies.
