Thank you for excellent site on the Genocide in Namibia. I shall incorporate it into my future lectures and teaching about the Shoah and Porjamos (Holocaust)and World War II in Europe. A sad story too often repeated.

Dear Sir/madam,

I have been casually browsing the web to see the kind of information that exists on Lesotho which is my native country. I thought it worthwhile to write to you and let you know how absolutely impressed I am with the accuracy of information and the variety of pictures of original Basotho crafts and way of life. I really appreciate the effort you have made in your research and in depicting to the world a true and dignified picture of my people and my King. Your website is by far the best so far on the web.

Thank you and please keep up the good work.

Mrs. Mamosa Makaya (UK)

Good morning!

Just a little note to say that it was so wonderful to see your rich collection of Ricksha Boy pictures – my goodness! I told my son about them and was amazed to find any info whatsoever. Thanks for your lovely gallery!

Those were the good old days – huge lump in the throat stuff...

Have a fantastic day!

Best regards

Well, the BEST African art gallery I have ever seen. It is a pleasure to admire their collection. Artifacts, which are nowadays very, very hard to come across even in the most remote villages. Very hard but not impossible.

What a wonderful Website!

Thank you so very much for sharing your knowledge.
We will be in touch.    Martin Poland

Thanks for sending us your very impressive web site. I must congratulate you - it is excellent.

I am interested possibly purchasing three pottery vessels. I could not get the number for one, the Lozi bottle (Bartosi-Rotsi), the other two are Zulu #7387 and Tabuka # 9771. These would be shipped to Chicago, Illinois, USA.

Thanks very much,

Douglas Dawson

I have just viewed your presentation of Twyfelfontein Rock Engravings. It is fantastic. I particularly applaud your attitude toward the Shamanic representation theory that has so infected rock art interpretation not only in Africa but worldwide. I am sure you are familiar with the research done by Anne Solomon . I am a prehistorian. A recent book of mine is The Creative Ice Age Brain: Cave Art in the Light of Neuroscience. I believe, as you do, that it is unnecessary , even insulting, to invoke shamanism to explain human creativity.

Thank you once again for the rich array of imagery and the informative commentary on your website. It makes me want to return to Africa and see more.

Sincerely, Barbara Olins Alpert

Dear madams, Dear sirs,

I have recently discovered Your website and wanted to tell You that I was very fascinated and really enjoyed it - I came by just to learn more about African trade beads, which I collect and highly appreciate - and also learned a lot about our own Colonial history ... I am travelling from africa from time to time and I am just back from a trip to Cameroon, with some nice jewellery, rarer and not so rare ones. I am always interested in huntig rare objects, also under difficult condition, finding them is even more exciting than obtaining them.

best wishes,

Kay Meiners

Thank you for sharing this work, it is truly one of the most beautiful brilliant and touching displays I have very seen...WOW, Jara Uzenda

Dear amazing Ezakwantu,

Please let us know how you are prepared to share your images and knowledge of the Basotho. We do pro bono work for the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare in Lesotho, in the form of a community website and in-house media to generate enthusiasm for delivering professional health care. The images on your site are just perfect in their authenticity and we would love to include them in our designs.

Hello Gallery Ezakwantu,

Your website is the best -- well illustrated, meticulously organized and

very resourceful. Thank you!

The reason I am writing is to find information about bead number 1230 on

your chart. I picked up similar beads on a trip to Morocco.

Are these "JET" beads (please see attached). Where are they from? What is

the meaning of the inlay, if there is any? How old may they be?

If you could shed light on this kind of bead for me, I would really

appreciate it.

Kind regards,

Danke im Vorraus!

Greetings

Am delighted to have come across your wondrously informative sight – and am deeply impressed by how you share the contents.

Will be linking with you imminently, meanwhile would like to find out what’s required to arrange a visit.

I organise special interest tours and my Craft Art tour expressly visits David Walters’ studio, while ALL my tours factor in Solms Delta has a gem of a museum stop, so am deeply interested in making contact.

Would also appreciate a high res copy of La Motte farmhouse in your Cape Dutch homesteads section. Would this be possible?

With thanks  -  Marion Ellis

Oh wow! What a great find! The miscellaneous category might be my favorite, if only for the frothy lather the writer works him- or herself into describing the coco de mer.

These
scenes are one of many interesting finds. They're drawings of designs carved into calabash gourds made by ethnologist Dr. Alfred Schachtzabel.  posted by Kattullus

Central and Southern African tribal art and culture

The exceptionally informative and well illustrated Galerie Ezakwantu has great pages on African tribal art, culture and history [due to partial nudity many links NSFW]: African Lip Plugs - Lip Plates; African Currency - African Slave Beads; Jewelry; African Scarification; Thrones and Stools; Shields; Combs; Musical Instruments; Fertility Dolls; Weapons; Zulu Basketry; Contemporary Art; Cups; Tribal Currency; Zulu Ricksha attire; Southern Africa Tribal Migrations; South African Kings and Chiefs. Also some interesting pages on anger about Robert Mugabe; the sale of the gallery owner's property; Cape Dutch Homesteads and blueberry recipes.

A little more about the Body Art of Africa: Scarification among African cultures.

Thank you for putting up such great and colorful information on the web and taking care that it is also delightfully entertaining.
Sincerely and with many good wishes for your succes

Hi,

I enjoy your website, especially the perfectly round Swazi meat platters. Several years spent in Swaziland started my appreciation for all things Swazi and it has spread from there to southern Africa.

Warm regards,

 Mike

I am definitely referring the site to my colleagues and friends...i am sure they are going to love it

Well done again.

Good day

I’m South African, strangely enough borne in Wemmershoek around the corner from you and have just returned to Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, from six weeks in South Africa and Kenya.

You have quite the most stunning web site that I’ve ever come across.

Current plans are to return to SA in late April/May and I’d very much like to visit your excellent operation. I was in your vicinity a few weeks ago but had no idea of your presence otherwise I would definitely have visited.

Many thanks,

Michael Green.

Hallo,

I am deeply impressed by the informational and esthetic quality of your
gallery website. Congratulations and compliments.
We have a little business on tribal art here in Germany, and there might
be a faint (or fair ?) chance that the prices of your objects might even
be interesting enough for us for re-sale.
So I wonder how we could find out more about them without causing the
impression of simply being nosy...
Best regards,   Gerhard

I loved your website - the best thing I've come across yet on beads. I have sent links to several interested parties already. I recently purchased the book you referenced.

I became acquainted with Samburu, millifiori, chevrons, and Yemen prayer beads on a trip to Kenya last October.

Where are you located?

Thanks,   Marilyn

my compliments on your website. it's probably the finest i've ever seen and i spent lots of time reading about a variety of subjects including your name and karners [fascinating]. i think though that i missed any translation or explanation of ezakwantu.

Good morning,

What a wonderful surprise this morning ! Your email came to refresh such wonderful memories I have of my trips to South Africa and especially the Franschoek region! I do remember well your gallery and its treasures....you have one of the most unique collection of art I have seen! I still cherish the Zulu hat I purchased then. It figures very proudly in my small collection of African curios!

As you can see, I have now sadly moved from Kenya my previous posting and now work in the Caribbeans. Not a bad place at all but let me be honest and say that I do miss terribly Africa....

For sure I will make a stop at your gallery and its new location whenever I make it back to South Africa and its wine region.

Keep well and all the best to you,

Patrick Theriault MD.

This is the most powerfully VISUAL website on African art out there!
Amazing.

The dense black really makes the colors "pop". I can't believe how many images you pack into a page and still keep it looking clean and uncluttered. There should be some award given to you for doing this. I hope that even when you sell items that you will keep all of these pieces online. This is a virtual museum AND a full color book of African art.

Some of these pieces would go unnoticed if it wasn't for your wonderful documentation and all these fine photos. Anyone who buys a piece from you that is featured on your website must be quite delighted with the association of their purchase with such an outstanding web site.

Michael

This is the most extraordinary and generous resource. Thank you!  When can we expect a book?

The part on Karner history is completely fascinating, I had never really thought about an ossuary before.

 Congratulations.

Dear Amanda,

Thank you for your email as well as the earlier email you sent to us on March 5th wherein you provided us with information on the Zulu hat we purchased at Galerie Ezakwantu in Franschhoek.

As I think we told you, this was the first trip for my wife and me to South Africa.  And we loved every minute of every day we were in your wonderful country.  Many of our friends in Brussels had traveled to South Africa in the past and came back very enthusiastic about their trip.  So my wife and I decided to visit your country and find out for ourselves whether South Africa was everything we had heard from our friends.  We weren't disappointed.  It is a very special country with so much to see and to do.

Franschhoek will remain a special place for us because it was in your town that my wife and I celeberated our '40th' wedding anniversary.  We stayed at the Klein Genot and had dinner on the evening of March 4th at the Haut Cabriére restaurant.  We had an wonderful meal, an excellent Pinot Noir wine (our favoriate!) and good service.  A perfect evening!

You will be pleased to know that we hand carried the Zulu hat all the way back to Brussels.  It arrived in perfect shape and now sits on a side table in our living room.  We are very happy with our purchase.

Also, we were lucky that the Customs Office was still opened when we got to the airport on the evening of March 9th.  The lady was very nice and went through all the necessary paperwork.  I would assume that we will be receiving the money from the TVA Office within a few months.  Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Thank you again for being so nice and helpful to us when we came into your Galerie.  You can be sure that if we come back to South Africa (and we will!), we will make a stop in Franschhoek and come see you.

Best regards,

Jim Begg

Amanda & Jonathan:  Just a quick email to thank you both for your splendid assistance in effecting a perfect and timely delivery of the Zulu beer pot via BA to us here in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area.  The item arrived in perfect condition, so very well packaged, having landed at O'Hare in Chicago and then trucked to Milwaukee where it cleared customs, and where I picked it up at the customs broker's warehouse. There were no duties to pay, either. It is now trying to become accustomed to snow!  The only thing missing were instructions on how to brew beer in the pot! Richard Dean.

Thank you so much for the shipment of our purchases. They were so wonderfully packed and arrived in perfect condition. Thank you also for including the information about each piece - - - it was very helpful. My memory had faded a bit!

Thank you for your help. It was a pleasure doing business with you. You run a very efficient operation - - - the best we experienced in South Africa.
