Dr Conner grew up abroad. He obtained his PhD from Indiana University, Bloomington under the supervision of Roy Sieber. His Fulbright research focused on the Jere and Maseko Ngoni of Malawi. He is an independent appraiser who has advised organizations and cultural institutions, published and traveled widely, taught African, Oceanic and Ancient American art as a university professor, developed and maintained collections of world art, and helped design and found Louisiana's first graduate program in museum studies. He is centrally located in the U.S., but undertakes international assignments, including special problems involving repatriation and liquidation.
