The Ngulu mask represents the manifestation of an ancestor who adopted the form of a domestic pig. Ngulu dances at mukanda in an capricious manner.

This mask was exhibited at the Birmingham Museum of Art during the CHOKWE Art and Initiation Among Chokwe and Related Peoples exhibition. For display purposes, a hide from a genet cat was added to the coiffure, as was a full costume.

From Birmingham, the mask travelled to the Minneapolis Arts Institute and the Baltimore Museum of Art, where the travelling exhibition concluded.
